FESTIVAL REPORT
1/1/2010
The Take3/2009 Dawn Breakers International Film Festival concluded after a powerful event that took place in the picturesque scenery of Zurich from December 25th to 31st, 2009. The festival provided an ambiance replete with screenings, discussions, Q&A with filmmakers, workshops and networking. There were participants from Switzerland, France, Germany, Austria, Italy, Spain and many other European countries.
This year’s lineup included 36 entries from 18 countries. The films were from American Samoa, Bahrain, Brazil, Canada, China, Georgia, Honduras, Iran, Israel, Italy, Kuwait, Malaysia, Netherlands, New Zealand, Portugal, Samoa, Surinam, and the United States.
Among the filmmakers and their cast who attended the event were Paul Adams and Jeanette DiBella who came from the United States to promote their film. The post-screening Q&A and discussions were a pivotal aspect of the festival. During these discussions, the audience reflected on the themes, quality of production, and the overall message of each project. The audience was given a dedicated amount of time to interact with each film and the filmmakers. The director’s statement was read or referenced during the discussions by the presenter, in instances where the filmmakers were not present. This unique format allowed for more active involvement with the projected images, rather than passive participation and spectatorship.
The festival, now entering its fourth year, has gained astonishing momentum over the past three years, both from the film community and the general public. The continued support from all fronts has enabled the Dawn Breakers International Film Festival to continue its mission of recognizing and showcasing films that are examples of excellence in the art of filmmaking and portray a world-embracing vision.
